If you start creating a routine of things you do before bed each evening, your body will start to calm down. Here are a few things you might include in your routine.

Of course, personal hygiene at bedtime is a must. Instead of just brushing your teeth and washing your face, though, you might want to add in something relaxing. Rub lavender scented lotion into your hands, or give yourself a quick foot massage.

Start dimming the lights you’re around at least a couple of hours before bed. This means skipping out on the television and the computer screen. Read with a relatively dim light, or simply listen to music with the lights off.

Start getting ready for bed about the same time every night if at all possible. This time routine alone can often help people who have trouble falling asleep get to sleep more quickly each night.

If you have trouble shutting off your brain to fall asleep because of distracting outside noises, try investing in a sound machine. Some machines are just white noise to drown out distracting and waking noises around you. Others will actually play music or calming ocean sounds, etc. These can be used to help you start unwinding each night.

Even if you can’t get to bed at the same time each night, try your best to wake up at the same time each morning. This will help your body stay on track so you can fall asleep the next night.

Most people, at some point in their lives, have a few days, months, or weeks where they wake up still feeling sleepy. This is pretty common, and it can be due to a number of factors. Sometimes it has to do with the quality of your sleep, and sometimes with the quantity. Sometimes this has to do with an illness, and it isn’t even related to your sleeping habits at all. What do you do if you constantly struggle with waking up still tired?

There are many moves you could make. First off, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Every healthy adult needs seven to nine hours of sleep a night. Which end of this spectrum you fall on will depend where you are in your life, how much stress you deal with daily, and your natural inclinations. If you aren’t getting at least seven hours of sleep a night, it’s time to rearrange your habits so you can make this happen. If you are getting enough sleep but still feel tired in the morning, you need to make sure you’re getting high quality sleep. You may be waking up at night or sleeping lightly without even realizing it.

A sound machine can sometimes help with this problem; it gives you background noise that can keep you from waking up at night. Another option is to get checked out for medical reasons why you might be waking up, such as sleep apnea. If you’ve done all these things and are still tired most or all mornings, it’s time to consult a doctor. There are lots of disorders that can cause constant tiredness, including hypothyroidism and other hormonal problems. Your doctor can run blood tests to learn what the problem is.

If you have trouble sleeping at night, you aren’t alone. There are hundreds of people around the world who toss and turn every night of their lives struggling to fall asleep. If you have full-fledged insomnia, you may need a prescription medication to help you fall asleep at night. If you’re just struggling to get to sleep for a couple of hours, though, you can try some natural remedies before you pull out the big guns. Here are three to try:

Valerian and chamomile tea. Of these two herbs, valerian is the strongest sleep-inducer. Chamomile is simply calming to the nerves and can be helpful if your falling asleep problem has to do with stress and too many thoughts in your head. You can purchase good versions of these teas from just about any grocery store. Brew a bag in near-boiling water for three to four minutes to get the benefit of all the oils. If you don’t like the taste, sweeten with a very little bit off honey.

Sound machines. White noise isn’t exactly natural in these technological days, but people have always known that background noises – rain on the roof, gentle wind in the trees, ocean waves – are calming. Many people find they sleep better when these noises are present naturally, so why not bring them into your room every night? Even a basic white noise machine probably will give you several sound options, some of which will seem natural.

Lavender essential oil. This essential oil is taken from the flowers of the lavender plant. It has long been used for its calming and sleep inducing properties. Unlike other essential oils, lavender doesn’t burn the skin if used directly. Put a little on your pillow at night, or even rub some behind your ears and on your hands a few minutes before bed.

Your tolerance level for noise when you’re sleeping probably changes throughout your life, too. A young college girl might find that she can sleep through a party in the next dorm room over, but when she becomes a mother for the first time, she might wake up to the tiniest breath from her baby.

At any rate, it’s not fun to be woken up in the middle of the night by various noises. If you want to avoid this, you have several options. You can move to the middle of nowhere and deal only with the noises that come with occasional storms, or you can take these less drastic steps.

One idea that works for many people is earplugs. You can get soft foam plugs that expand to fit into your ears perfectly. However, even through earplugs you can hear certain pitches of noise, especially, and these may fall out halfway through the night.

If earplugs don’t help you stay asleep because they fall out, you need an all-night noise fighting option. One idea is to use a noise machine or sound machine. This type of machine creates white noise in the background so that you don’t hear the other noises going on around you. Some of these machines create an all-frequency noise that sort of catches background noises and melds them into the white noise. Other machines will play soft, calming music or even nature noises like rain on the roof or the ocean surf. Any of these noises can be a great way to break free from the problem of staying awake or waking up because of noises in your home.

Contrary to popular convention, a good night’s sleep takes a lot more than simply closing your eyes, resting your head, and slipping off from the conscious world. There are different levels of sleep, and especially for newborns, infants and young children, it is essential for their development that each stage be achieved each night. Sound machines can be a great way for you to help your infant or young child learn to shut out the outside noises and distractions that prevent restful sleep.

Some parents rightly wonder if these machines are safe for the development of their children over the long-term. Yes, white noise is safe for babies. Sound machines block out the ambient noises that prevent the inducement and sustenance of the normal sleep cycle. Most machines offer a variety of different sound profiles. Every sound from a subtle, babbling brook to crickets gently plucking away in a thick, wooded forest; or waves gently slapping upon the shore can help even the most restless and unruly toddler nod off to a peaceful slumber. Each sound profile has been scientifically engineered to help induce and sustain human sleep patterns in even the most active urban environments.

Sound machines are a great alternative to the expensive and ineffective “sleep” pillows or blindfolds that are incredibly impractical for newborns, infants and young children. Since it is inadvisable to seek medication to help young children beat their sleep disorders, utilizing a sound machine is the perfect choice for any parent. They are small, taking up little space on your child’s nightstand, dresser top or shelf, and most are powered with batteries. They are much safer than many of the alternatives to help your child sleep through the night, every night, establishing a pattern of easy, restful sleep throughout their lives.

There are many obstacles to finding a good night’s sleep in this work-a-day world. With each passing week, it seems everything is going 24-7-365 with no end in sight. Sleep deficiency, while seeming innocuous enough, can be extremely detrimental to your long-term health. Lack of sleep can affect your metabolism, your immune system, your blood pressure, and in extreme cases it can make you clinically depressed.

Do not waste your time with blindfolds, ear plugs or expensive contraptions designed to shut out ambient noise. White noise machines will help block out background noise created by outside traffic, noisy neighbors, garbage trucks, snoring spouses and just about any other noise that stands poised to ruin your sleep cycle.

The human body needs at minimum six hours of sleep per night. Extended periods of sleep deficiency can affect your health, your mood, and can lead to excessive weight gain.

With a white noise machine, you can block out all interference and enjoy a restful night’s sleep without any medication, which can be dangerous and addictive.

These machines work through emitting a low frequency “static” sound that is barely susceptible to the human hear, but it works wonders at blocking out every other sound near by. They are small and compact, occupying little space on your nightstand or dresser top, and they are either powered with batteries or through a typical 120 volt electrical outlet. Unlike “sound machines,” white noise machines do not play a specific sound, rather they work to block out other noises. Some people with sleep issues find these machines much more useful and convenient than sound machines.

If you have extended periods of insomnia or restless sleep patterns, and you find yourself unable to achieve REM sleep, consult with physician.

Between the stresses of the nine to five grind to the myriad social and extra-curricular activities we must shuffle to and from, it can be difficult to relax. A person needs to let the REM sleep cycle perform its magic through our subliminal biology. Worse yet, ambient noise caused by traffic and a nocturnal urban environment never let us capture a truly silent moment of peace for ourselves. If you are struggling to find a few hours of peaceful slumber, look to sound machines.

Recent studies have shown that people who are having difficulty sleeping slumber as well or better through the use of sound machines than they do with pills or special pillows. These machines create a peaceful environment by playing calming sounds, such as the ocean, or of faint crickets in a wooded forest.

Other types of machines specifically work to block out ambient sound from other sources that are keeping you awake at night, such as traffic, people walking about, snoring spouses or noisy neighbors. By emitting a subtle yet soothing “white noise,” these machines help create a completely peaceful atmosphere that allows you to de-stimulate your mind and succumb to the natural process of somnolent sleep.

There are many different models of sound machines to choose from. Some are dedicated to playing a specific, peaceful sound. Others work to block out ambient noise. These machines work great, take up little space on your nightstand, and can be powered either by batteries or through an electrical outlet, offering convenience and subtlety in one great package. Don’t waste your time with special neck pillows that you lose during sleep, or with pills that have dangerous side effects. Take a look and see what a sound machine can do for you.

Many adults and children have ongoing problems reaching the two stages of deep sleep in the NREM and REM sleep cycles. Solutions and treatments to these problems stem from all kinds of sources, and it can be frustrating for any person dealing with them to trace back. Though most treatments for sleep disorders break down into the categories of medication, apparatuses, psychological counseling and sound therapy, most such disorders cannot be effectively cured until the root of the problem is found. Doubly frustrating these efforts is the fact that sleep disorders are often caused by a confluence of problems, including physical, psychological and environmental factors. This makes solving the sleep disorder a long-term, ongoing endeavor.

However, through the use of white noise machines, most people afflicted with sleeping disorders find some measure of success in achieving deep REM sleep, and notice a marked improvement in their ability to fall asleep and maintain slumber. While these machines are not a cure-all, studies show that they are often just as effective as sleep medication for patients that are afflicted with myriad sleep disorders.

White noise machines work to block out ambient noise that keeps your mind and central nervous system in a state of constant stimulation. When your mind and body are in such a state, solid, restful sleep is nearly impossible. Complicating matters, prolonged sleep deprivation compounds the disorder and makes effective treatment that much more difficult. With a sound machine, all you may hear as you fall asleep is a faint fuzz sound or something reminiscent of a distant and soft waterfall. With this, the machine blocks out all other noise, whether it is traffic, neighbors, kids or snoring spouses that are keeping you up all night.

For serious and prolonged sleep disorders, consult with your physician.

One of the most difficult things to achieve in this fast paced world is a good night’s sleep. Due to the demands of our jobs and our families, the stresses and anxieties that prey on our consciences work double time when it is time to hit the hay and catch a few z’s. After only a few nights of insufficient sleep, the human body begins to go into an induced stress mode, conserving energy for flight or fight type interactions. This condition leaves many other processes unattended. Sleep deprivation can come in many forms, and is most often not a matter of chronic insomnia. Even losing two hours of sleep per night can lead to serious problems with a person’s mental and physical health.

The Sleep Cycle

There are two types of sleep for most mammals, including humans. There is NREM sleep and REM sleep. NREM is Non Rapid Eye Movement sleep, which means that your mind is not in an active dreaming state. REM is Rapid Eye Movement sleep, which is the stage of sleep in which people dream. In a normal sleep cycle, a person experiences the three different stages of NREM sleep, N1, N2, N3, before entering REM sleep in the early morning hours just prior to waking. N2 and N3 are the stages of deepest sleep, where most of the benefits of slumber are derived, but REM sleep is also essential to the cycle.

What A Sound Machine Does

Through the use of emitting different “natural” sounds, sound machines block out most of the ambient noise that invades a person’s bedroom, and allows that person to go through the entire sleep cycle undisturbed. The natural sounds include waterfalls, ocean waves, forests, deserts and even simple white noise.

For serious and prolonged sleep disorders, consult your physician.

In a time where more people than ever are plagued by insomnia, finding a solution that can not only help people to sleep at night but to relax during the day as well is important. Insomnia causes a large number of health problems, ranging from simple irritability and depression to increasing the risk of heart attacks and other major complications. If insomnia is affecting your life, taking a look at sound conditioners is highly recommended. A sound machine like the Sound Oasis Sound Therapy System can provide just the help you need to restore your natural rest pattern.

The Sound Oasis offers much more than your standard white noise machine can provide. This is one of the most state of the art sound conditioners on the market, offering a unique technology that employs an array of sound cards. These cards are programmed with a number of different sound types, enabling you to find just the relaxing sounds you need to help you rest. Whether you are looking to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, the comforts of a thunderstorm, or the sounds of white noise, this machine makes it easy to find what you need.

What makes the Sound Oasis different from other sound conditioners is that it also offers users the ability to choose other sound cards. Most machines are capable of playing only the select few sounds that come installed on them, but the Sound Oasis offers many more choices. For example, the spa retreat sound card offers a number of sounds that are designed to aid in daytime relaxation, such as gentle rain and island streams. Other sound cards are available that offer nature sounds as well as songs and sounds for babies. People with tinnitus will even find that there are cards available that are specifically designed to mask the ringing sounds that the condition causes.

In all, the Sound Oasis certainly stands apart from other sound machines. Situated in the middle of the price scale for such machines, there are certainly numerous options available that make the machine worth the price. The ability to switch sounds with only the swap of a card makes the machine ideal for parents and babies alike, while timers enable users to save on electricity costs or to simply limit the time that the machine is active. When your sleep has been disrupted by insomnia or you find it hard to relax, the Sound Oasis can help you find the peace that you are looking for.
